E-Mail about password reset request - to prove it is real

E-Mail Subject: Important : tomorrow you will be asked to reset your AEI computer password to gain access to more IT services

Hello,

You can check this E-Mail is OK by looking at the copy of it on the AEI IT support website:
https://it-support.aei.mpg.de/password-change/email-to-aei-idm-gwdg.html

Tomorrow (DAY and DATE) you will be asked to reset your AEI computer account password to gain access to more IT services such as Overleaf (ShareLaTeX) and RocketChat.
You will receive an automated email that will direct you to set your password via the it-support.aei.mpg.de website.

(if your account has already been moved to the GWDG-IDM, then please ignore this).

Can I reset my password to the same as it is now?
Yes, if your current AEI computer account password meets the new requirements (10 characters long, special characters, not a dictionary word, etc.).
If your password does not meet the new requirements and you reset it to a new one, then you will need to change the saved passwords on all your devices, in browsers, etc.

What happens if I do not reset my AEI computer password tomorrow?
Your access to AEI IT services will continue to function. However you will not be able to use additional IT services that we will soon release, such as ShareLaTeX (Overleaf), Rocket Chat and more (until you reset your password).

Why do I have to reset my password to gain access to these additional IT services?
Several encrypted versions of your password are stored in our identify management system (IDM). The IDM of the AEI is an LDAP. We do not store your password in clear text. For the additional services we need some additional encrypted versions of your password, and that is achieved by you setting your password using our new password changer.

More information:
The online password changer is hosted by the GWDG (gwdg.de) which is a central Max Planck IT service provider, and the source of some of the new IT services we will be releasing. The GWDG runs an IDM that can also be used to authenticate other IT services. In the future we hope to use this for the MPG intranet (max.mmpg.de) and online administration workflows such as travel costs, holiday allocation, etc. (yes, logging in to all of these with your AEI computer account, as opposed to your personal ID number and another password as it is now).

best wishes,

Mike Rose.
